It’s summer here in Texas and this girl is as white as a lily. Nothing gives me a little extra boost of confidence like feeling like a bronze summer goddess. My skin is sensitive, dry and super white. So it is a personal mission of mine to find good quality tanning products that are not outrageously expensive. I scoured magazines and blogs for the most highly recommended tanning products and picked 4 of them. I decided to use one product a week, Monday through Friday, skipping the weekends to give my skin time to get clean for the past four weeks to compare them. If you like this review, comment down below and I will pick 4 more popular self-tanning products to review in August! So let’s get down to it.

tan3 Product: Jergens Natural Glow

Price: $8.99

Review: So I wanted to review the Jergen’s lotion first because I was not impressed by it. The color was streaky and took a long time to build up. The smell wasn’t terrible but it left behind like a soap residue on my legs and arms. It felt like it was never absorbed because I felt sticky. It definitely was the least pigmented tanning product as well. However, this product is super convenient and can be purchased at your local drug store. Another plus side is that it doesn’t rub off on your sheets and that’s something  I look for. I would recommend this product to someone who is already tan and wants to add a little bronze to their legs. Unfortunately, it’s not going to be a summer staple for me.

tan4Product: St. Moriz Self-Tanning Mousse

Price: $9.00

Review: St. Moriz use to be my go to self-tanning product, it gives you a nice instant bronze and applies easily with a tanning mitt. Now it is coming in third on this list. St. Moriz has a very strong self-tanning smell that I just don’t like after a day or two. You have to reapply it often to keep from getting streaky as well. The color is so pigmented that it gets unnaturally dark on your knees, ankles, and elbows and I use the medium color. This product did not leave marks on my sheets either which I can appreciate. I would recommend this product if you have an event and need an instant bronze, in fact I wore this tanning product to my brother’s wedding last summer.

tan1Product: Brazilliance by Tarte

Price: Travel Size $19.99

Review: The Brazilliance self-tanning product is not really a budget friendly option but I have seen it touted in so many magazines and by beauty gurus that I wanted to try it. I get why everyone loves this product, it has a great color. Even though the color isn’t instant, it starts to really bronze you after an hour. It is also easy to build a darker color by putting another layer on. This has a good smell for awhile but then that self-tanning smell creeps up on you after a day. Also, this product transfers to everything! My poor sheets during this week looked like a muddy dog slept in them. This product also left behind a lotion like residue that I just can’t get over. One thing I really did like about this product is the color lasted a long time and I didn’t feel like I needed to reapply it. Especially for something that is so expensive, I was hoping for a higher quality product.

tan2Product: Fake Bake Flawless

Price: $13.00

Review: I understand why this product has over 5,000 reviews on Amazon and is 4.5 stars! Fake Bake Flawless is the winner of this little contest, it has such a good color and texture. I love that it comes with a mitt and gloves so I didn’t have to buy one separately. It’s a liquid instead of lotion or mousse so it dries on your skin and leaves no residue. The color is not too dark and looks like a natural tan. It is not streaky and actually has a great smell. Also, it doesn’t leave any color on your sheets. Even though you do have to reapply it more than you do for the Brazilliance, it’s just a better product overall and it is so budget friendly. It does give you instant color but it also gradually gets darker in a few hours. I definitely recommend this product as a summer staple so you can have that glow without damaging your skin.

Of course, if you are regular reader you know that I got these products from Amazon (not sponsored, but again Amazon, hit me up)!
